A community working together using the available resources for sustainable income
An outstanding organisation empowering Women, Youth and the elderly through income generating schemes for Livelihood improvement.
Tooro Gallery was founded by Anne Kabahuma Kalinzi in 2014 after realising that many young women she had gone to school with had no source of income to provide scholastic materials and other home requirements for their children. This had affected their confidence and ability to participate in decision making especially decisions regarding household incomes and finances. All they could do was to bare children and dig as men decided on what was best for their families. As a result, domestic violence cases went on the raise. However, Anne recalled that when in school, they had acquired skills in handcraft like making mats, hats and weaving baskets. What was needed was to develop further our skills and produce high quality products that we would sell to tourists, hotels and souvenir shops.
